Mary Melitona Montejano was born February 5, 1911 in Calexico, California, to Francisco and Jesus Montejano. She met Rafael M. Alvarez and they were married in Yuma, Arizona on December 24, 1941.
Mary earned her Bachelor's degree in Education at San Diego Teachers College (now San Diego State University), and taught up until the time she was married.
Mary and Rafael had five children, Gloria, Darlene, Alma, Elyd and Ralph.
Mary loved Eggplant Parmesiano, piano music, roses, any shade of lavender, Frank Sinatra, and her favorite movie was the Blue Veil, starring Jane Wyman.
Her beloved husband passed away February 6, 1970, the day after her birthday, and she has cherished his memory since that day.
Surviving Mary are her loving children, Gloria (Sherman) Kappe, Darlene McRay, Alma Alvarez, Elyd (Gilbert) Perez, and Ralph (Susan) Alvarez; 11 grandchildren; 12 and 7/8 great granchildren and many friends.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Thursday, February 26, 2004 from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, in Santa Fe Springs. She will be lovingly laid to rest with her beloved Rafael on Friday, in a private family service at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, California.
