Barbara Ashby

Barbara Ray Harrison Ashby was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 9, 1934. She was an excellent student and a talented vocalist. She attended West High School, in Salt Lake City, UT.

She met Francis Ashby, and they were married on April 2, 1951. Their union was blessed with four children, Ann Marie, Colleen, Darinda and Richard. She was a good mother and wife and in between caring for her family and home, she owned and operated Ashby's Ceramics. She was a skilled ceramist and enjoyed sharing her talents with others. Her ceramic classes were always well attended and her students benefited from her knowledge and ability. She was very sad when she had to give up her shop due to her health. She continued doing ceramics and made keepsake heirloom porcelain Christmas decorations for her children and grandchildren.

She loved to travel and taking a Sunday afternoon ride brought alot of pleasure to her. Her children and grandchildren filled her life with love and happiness. Mom always enjoyed playing games as a family. Many nights and holidays were spent with the family around a table playing gin rummy, Tri-Ominos, Mormon Bridge, Rook, or a number of other games.

She went home to be with her Saviour on January 21, 1995. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of almost 44 years, Francis; her children, Ann Marie (Lawrence) Kranwinkle, Colleen (Glen) Midgley, Darinda Strong and Richard (Julie) Ashby; 16 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; and a Sister, Pauline Clayton. Her many students and friends will remember her with love.

She was laid to rest in Mountain View Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah, at the foothills of the mountains she loved.

God looked around His garden and
He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain.
He know that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting wide,
And the hills harder to climb, so
He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered, "Peace be Thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone
For a part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
